Hugh Grant is disgusting. He plays the same guy in every movie. Same thing with this 80’s horror movie The Lair Of The White Worm, loosely based on Bram Strokers novel by the same name. Movie is pretty good tho.
There is a legend in English village about giant snake monster. From the same village archaeology guy, Angus Flint, finds giant snake skull. He lives in Derbyshire Bed & Breakfast (actually Angus finds the skull from Bed & Breakfasts yard..), owned by Trent sisters. Their father disappeared like a year ago near Lady Sylvia Marsh’ home, who happens to human/snake/vampire or something and snake god Dionins priestess She steals the skull so she can do some rituals. She also needs virgin for human sacrifice, so she kidnaps Eve Trent, who is also Hugh Grants girlfriend and virgin. Oh and the legend tells that Grants ancestor killed giant snake monster in the past. So Grant and archaeology dude must save the girl.
So this was pretty dope and stupid, in a good way. Fun to watch. It was kinda like campy tribute to classic Hammer movies. Cast was alright and it was really weird to see Amanda Donohoe as the villain after watching her in Emmerdale. This was second movie I’ve seen from Ken Russel where he uses weird psychedelic visionz scenes, but here they looked much cheaper than in Altered States. My favorite one was this where Eve sees roman soldiers raping nuns in front of Jesus on the cross with giant snake chilling.
Dialogue is really stupid and almost every joke and punchline is about snakes. Actually pretty much everything in the movie got something to do with snakes. They even play Snakes & Ladders at one point. There other stupid things and sometimes plot is confusing or it doesn’t make any sense, but still movie is dope, entertaining piece of 80’s campy horror trash.
